Local Attractions

Cornwall and the area around Roche has a wide variety of attractions and the following provides a little 'snapshot' of just a few………...

Eden Project  (5 miles)
Located only 5 miles away towards St. Austell this has become one of the main visitor attractions in Cornwall, with over 2 million visitors in under 2 years.  The third Biome is now being constructed.  Not to be missed !!

Lost Gardens of Heligan   ( 8 miles )
Situated between St. Austell and Mevagissey, this was Tim Smit's first project (before Eden) to discover a 'typical' Cornish garden as it was in 1900 and show how it was run.  A truly amazing garden.

Lanhydrock   ( 5 miles)
Set in 450 acres of woodland and parkland this is one of the finest houses in Cornwall.  Its 50 rooms give an extraordinary glimpse of life in a Victorian country house from the state rooms to the maze of kitchens, larders and sculleries " below stairs".  Well worth a whole day !!

Wheal Martin Museum  (formerly China Clay Museum ) ( 2 miles)
In the 18th century porcelain companies competed to produce the finest china.  Wedgwood bought clay from Cornwall for its tableware and Chine Clay is still Cornwall's largest single industry.  The museum takes you through the story of china clay from 1800 to today.  An interesting industrial tour.

Charlestown   ( 6 miles )
Visit the shipwreck museum and see the harbour at work in the repair and restoration of old sailing ships, many that come across the world for the unique skills at Charlestown

Padstow & Camel Estuary  ( 13 miles )
Despite its popularity from Rick Stein and his culinary skills, Padstow and the Camel estuary provide a good relaxing spot on the north coast with  good sandy beaches and the Camel Trail for the adventurous walkers and cyclists.  (Bicycle hire is available in Padstow and Wadebridge)

Truro
The capital city of Cornwall and main shopping centre for 'shopaholics'…..(and traffic jams on wet summer days !)

National Maritime Museum - Falmouth  ( 26 miles )
One of Cornwall's latest visitor attractions which has opened in Falmouth and is already proving to be a great success.  Great displays and superb interactive simulations for everybody.  A very modern museum - well worth a visit………….  ( we thought it was great, anyway…)
